Tall and Turned Whale Ivory Pickwick, American, mid-19th Century
InformationTall turned and scribed whale ivory pickwick. The base of the pickwick has a tall bulbous-shape with a multi-tiered turned round base. The top of the device has a belaying pin shaped handle which can be pulled out exposing the steel sharp pin used to raise the wick of a whale oil lamp. The top, shaft and base of the pickwick has elaborate turned scribe lines with filled red sealing wax inlay. (SC1346)
Condition: The pickwick is in excellent condition with tiny typical age cracks. It has a warm deep patina.
