Whale Ivory Scrimshaw Bodkin in the Form of a Lopped Serpent, American Mid 19th Century

InformationCarved whale ivory graceful and elegant bodkin in the form of a looped serpent, American mid 19th century. At the top of the curve the serpent body loops around and tapers in width. At the end of the loop the serpent’s neck is thin and then the head broadens a bit with inlaid tiny eyes and then tapers to a point. (SC1248) Condition: The bodkin is in excellent condition and has a warm age patina. Length 3 3/4 Inches
