Extremly Well Detailed 19th Century Large Carved Chinese Ivory Chess Set with Period :Lacquerware Board
InformationExtremely well Detailed Chinese Chess set, last half of the 19th century with period Lacquered board. All of the pieces are carved with human forms. The pawns are on horseback and the castles have a rider on top of an elephant with a flag at the top. All of the pieces have round bases with a ball in a bell circular carving above. All surfaces of the pieces are carved with the most detailed and minute designs. One side is stained red and the other is in the natural white ivory color.

Dimensions of the Pieces: King 7 ½”, Queen 6 ¼”, Castle and Bishop 5 ½”, Pawn 3 ½ inches.
Condition: The set is in excellent condition and has a few minor repairs and loses.
The chess set is a accompanied with a mid-19th century Gilt -Decorated Lacquerware chess board. The board has hinges and folds closed for easier storage. On the inside surface is a beautifully decorated backgammon board pattern. The set includes two numbered round ivory spinners; each spinner has a hand that the player spins as an alternative to using dice.
