Exceptionally Large 10 1/4" Tall Sperm Whale Tooth, 19th century
InformationFine specimen of a very large sperm whale tooth, probably caught by an American whaleman, 19th century. The top 4 ½ section of the tooth has a natural polish which indicates the top of the tooth protruding from the gum line The remaining section is raw and unpolished. The tooth is quite wide and has a interesting shape. This is one of the largest and finest examples we have seen of a raw sperm whale tooth. (SC1350)
Condition The tooth is in excellent condition and has some marking possibly from when it was removed from the whale. The reverse of the tooth has a natural “v” shaped opening rising from the bottom of the base. The tooth is mounted on a 2-tier modern display base.
