InformationNantucket Cocktail Size Purse signed on Bottom "Donna Cifranic, Nantucket Island 1987". The basket has a fine "micro weave" with fine thin oak ribs and rattan weavers. The rims are white oak and the finely shaped handle is oak and the base appears to be walnut.. The basket has ivory escutcheons at the end of the swing handle and an ivory fid closure pin. The top is made of polished ivory and has a finely polychrome engraved Nantucket harbor scene with buildings in the distance and various sized sailing vessels around the center. The ivory plaque is signed near the center on the far left side "DL 87". The inside of the ivory top has a scrimshaw image of a standing egret and the original owners name "Constance L. Acton". The basket is signed a second time on the inside of the base. (FA1218) Condition: Excellent Note: Donna Cifranic learned her craft from Mr. Paul Johnson a master basket maker. Her baskets are tightly woven with even stitching and strong staves. Both are considered master weavers. She lived and made fine baskets on Nantucket for many years.
