Fine 36 Gun bone POW model of the French Frigate “Amazon” circa 1790. The model is very well detailed with an individually laid planked hull and decks. The rows of metal pins that fasten the planks are clearly visible in rows. The spars are accurately shaped and have gold-colored bands on the bottom row wrapping the mast. The yardarms and fighting tops are finely carved bone. The running and standing rigging are finely rigged and has age. All the blocks and dead-eyes are made from bone. Hanging from the rigging on the outboard port and starboard at about midships are lifeboats. There is a finely carved figurehead in the form of full figure woman with long dress. There is a painted British flag hanging from the gaff. The model retains its rounded corner bone planked base. Mounted on top of the base are a pair of bone chalks that hold the model in place. The is a bone band that wraps around the base. The top edge of the band is “wavy” in shape and the bottom of the band has a rope carved theme. The model sits on turns bone feet. Mounted at each front corner of the base is a bone and metal anchor. (SM0725)
