Bobby Marks of Osterville, Massachusetts Ebonized swing handled Nantucket basket table. There is an applied ivory panel on swing handle with etched decoration of a house in a winter landscape. The bottom of the table has a reverse turned ivory finial which was standard on the few tables he made. A circular inlaid plaque featuring finely engraved scrimshaw decoration of a squirrel is set into the ebonized wood top of the basket. Bob Marks made baskets at his shop in Osterville MA for several years. (FA1231)

Note: Bob was born and grew up on Nantucket, together with his wife Karen, founded Oak & Ivory in Osterville in 1985, designing and creating Nantucket Lightship Baskets. I knew bob and was always fund of his basket-candle stand tables. I believe he made around 6 of them.
Bob semi-retired in 2014 to spend more time in his woodworking shop, hunting, fishing, and exploring at his much-loved cabin, Streamside, in the deep woods of New Hampshire.
Bob, together with his wife Karen, founded Oak & Ivory in Osterville in 1985, designing and creating Nantucket Lightship Baskets. Their business grew to include finely crafted items by local artisans. He was considered one of the highest quality Nantucket basket makers of his era.
