Whale Ivory Pire Crimper with Winding Serpent and Fork, American circa 1860

InformationAmerica, Mid-19th Century EXCELLENT WHALE IVORY LOOPED SERPENT PIE CRIMPER A red-mouthed serpent with inset eyes and a looped body coils around one end of a brace-shaped shaft. Opposite end with an elegantly swooping three-tine fork and a pastry wheel with a pierced teardrop design and notched rim. Shaft with two medial baleen spacers. (SC1290) Length 7". Condition: Age lines, starting to crack, mostly concentrated around baleen spacers. Some pearling. Reference: "Wandering Whalemen and there Art:..." by Alan Granby and published in 2022 by Alan Granby page 293. An almost identical serpent crimper is illustrared on this page and is the collection of the mariner's Museum.
