Small oval whalebone ditty box with wonderful deep patina, American Mid-19th Century. The top of the basket is made of whalebone and has a thin band around the lid which is attached with fine metal pins. The basket base is also attached with small pins and is bent around a wood base. The overlapping joint for the basket and top is fastened together with 2 rows of mental pins. (SC1245)
Condition: The box is in excellent condition but there is a small loss along the base of the perimeter. The basket has rich deep age patina.
