Information

Fine 19th century Whale Ivory and Whale Bone Cane, mid-19th century. The ivory grip is balloon-shaped with twelve carved pedals around the circumference. At the bottom of the grip is an eight-sided silver band that was probably made from a coin. The heavily carved tapered whale bone shaft is eight-sided with inlaid silver ovals with a hole for a lanyard to pass through. There are four Turk's-heads separating all of the carved sections. The first section has a fluted section, followed by a raised diamond hatch pattern, above a rope carved section and terminating in a smooth eight-sided section and ending with a 2 ¼ inch long brass ferrule with a steel tip.
