Possibly unique Chelsea clock with fourteen-inch dial with time only movement number 93451 housed in a Ashton Valve case, circa 1940. The dial has a small second’s dial just above the center of the hands. To the right is a time regulator for slow and fast. Near the bottom of the dial is the bronze original case makers logo which states “The Ashton Valve Co. Boston MA”. On the left side of the case is a button to release the bezel lock and to the right is a very large shield shaped hinge. The dial is silvered and has waxed filled Arabic numerals. The hands are typical Chelsea “Moon Hands” made from blued steel. (CL0638)
Condition: The movement has been recently overhauled and the dial silvered and the case polished and lacquered. There is a recently built walnut stand that supports this large heavy clock. The hands have been replaced.
Note: Chelsea 12 inch clocks are typically the largest size dial clocks for the Chelsea clocks. This is the same for Crosby Steam Gage cases as well as Ashton Valve Company cases. This is the only known Chelsea Clock is a 14-inch case. There is one other Chelsea clock that is similar that has a 17 inch case.
