Nantucket Purse Signed W & J Sayle 1977
InformationNantucket purse signed W & J Sayle and dated 1977 on the bottom. The basket has oak ribs and rattan weavers. The basket as a finely shaped oak swing handle with ivory escutcheons. The top is rounded and the sides are straight. The basket has a front leather closure rapped in rattan with and ivory fid. The rear hinges are also leather raped in rattan. The basket has an ivory oval top with a ebony carved sperm whale mounted on the top. The inside of the ivory has an attractive scrimshaw decoration with the original owners name "Constance L. Acton".
