Whalebone and wood mallet, American, circa 1850. The head of the mallet is made from a solid block of whalebone turned into a cylinder with a raised band 1 1/2 inches in width. The center of the raised band is scribed as is the edge of one of the ends. The wood handle has a very sophisticated turning. (SC-990)
