EXCEPTIONAL MERCURY WHEEL (BANJO) BAROMETER, engraved on reverse of dial "Frankam, London, October 15, 1833, inlaid wood barometer made for D.J. Clarke, 32 Clerkanarell Green, London". This barometer has a wood specimen case, constructed with myraids of triangular wedges fashioned out of exotic woods, 11 inch dial is beautifully engraved with an elaborate mariner's compass in center and signed Dubini, London. Instrument is in fine working order. Length 39 inches; Diameter 13 inches; Depth 1 3/4 inches. NOTE: This barometer was made for Mr. Clarke, who probably was a sea captain or a serious traveler of some sort. The hinged door on the reverse of the instrument has an applied handwritten paper which identifies the types of woods used as well as locations throughout the world from which they were collected. Given the unusual form of the instrument and the information noted above, it seems reasonable to assume that this is a unique one of a kind piece. (I 0524)
