Carved and painted fish with metal five star American Flag applied to top of fish attributed to Clark Voorhees, American circa 1975. The fish The fish is painted the same on both sides. It has a folkie appearance with a green painted body with red scales. The fish's mouth is open showing sharp pointed teeth. There is a metal bracket that holds the flag above the fish and it is attached on both sides. Applied to the top of fish between the flag bracket are five applied metal triangular pointed fins. Condition: The fish is in excellent condition and has a mellow patina.

Provenance: Living in Vermont and carving and painting whale plaques, Clark Voorhees was familiar with the collection at Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont. Amongst their fabulous collection of American folk art is a a very similar carved fish which inspired him to create this carving. He sold the carving to a collector in Connecticut who purchased it from him directly. Presently the 19th Century fish with flag is exhibited in the Stage Coach Building at Shelburne.
