Rare small size leather covered brass bound China trade camphor wood chest, circa 1850. The chest retains all the brass banding around the circumference of the top and base. Within the borders of the top and base panels are double rows of decorative brass tacks. The top and base panels have hand-painted white with color embellished vine-like designs. The chest retains its original brass bail side handles, lock escutcheon and lid ring. (F-528)
Condition: The red leather is still bright and vibrant with only minor scuffing and losses. The hinges and brass carrying handles are original, but the lock is lacking. The chest has a warm, rich patina.
