Brass Barrel Blunderbuss with snap bayonet signed "Bailey" late English Late 18th Century. The Blunderbuss has a steel flick lock firing mechanism signed on the plate “Bailey” and London on the top of the barrel near the front. It has a fancy turned brass barrel the is flared and banded at the front of the barrel. The back of the barrel has 2 hall marks. At the bottom of the walnut stock is a fancy brass trigger guard and steel trigger. At the front are 2 fancy brass ramrod holders and the ramrod is tapered wood with a still end that looks like a worm used to clean the gun after firing. At the top front of the barrel is a steel bayonet mount that hold a working spring out bayonet. To close the bayonet when open is button which is located on the side of the bayonet mount. The blunderbuss has a wonderful wood stock which is handsomely shaped with gross hatching around the grip. The back of the stock has a brass butt plate that wraps around the top of the stock and tapers to a point. The top section of this brass butt pale is handsomely engraved. (I 0996)
Condition: The blunderbuss is in excellent condition and has a warm mellow patina. There is some loss to the finish on the ramrod from chafing from going in and out of its mount.
